The Home Brew Recipe Calculating Program - I.B.U. Calculator
This is the I.B.U. Calculator. By entering the volume and length of the boil, the utilization percentage, specific gravity of the wort, and the alpha acid and form of the hop used, this calculator can be used to determine either the amount of hops required to reach the entered I.B.U. level, or the I.B.U. level reached from the entered amount of hops.
Fields
- Boil Volume - This field is used to indicate what the Boil Volume will be. Changing this field will cause the I.B.U.'s to be recalculated.
- Volume Units - This field is used to indiciate the units used by the calculator. Click on the button in the corner of the field to change the volume units and convert the Boil Volume to the new units.
- Boil Length - This field is used to indiciate how long the boil lenght will be in minutes. Changing this field will change the % Utilization to reflect the value from the Hop Utilization table for the Hop Form entered, and will cause the I.B.U.'s to be recalculated.
- % Utilization - This field is used to indiciate the utilization percentage achieved by the brewer for the boil length entered. Changing this field will cause the I.B.U.'s to be recalculated.
- Wort S.G. - This field is used to indiciate what the specific gravity of the wort being boiled will be. The number displayed to the right of this field is a correction factor that applies to high gravity worts. With higher gravities, less utilization will be achieved. Changing this field will cause the I.B.U.'s to be recalculated.
- Hop A.A.U. - This field is used to indiciate what the alpha acid rating of the hop will be. Changing this field will cause the I.B.U.'s to be recalculated.
- Hop Form - This field is used to indiciate what form of hop will be used. Only whole, plug, or pellet may be selected. Changing this field will change the % Utilization to reflect the value from the Hop Utilization table for the Hop Form entered, and will cause the I.B.U.'s to be recalculated.
- Hop Amount - This field is used to indiciate what the amount of hops added will be. Changing this field will cause the I.B.U.'s to be recalculated.
- Amount Units - This field is used to indiciate the Hop Amount units used by the calculator. Click on the button in the corner of the field to change the amount units and convert the Hop Amount to the new units.
- I.B.U.'s - This field is used to indiciate what the I.B.U. level will be. Changing this field will cause the Hop Amount to be recalculated.
Buttons
- Recalc - Click this button to perform calculations.
- Ok - Click this button to exit the calculator.
